Description of the exhibition
The General Incorporated Association Dye Village Ochiai will exhibit "checkered" fabrics created by elementary school students using indigo dyeing at MUJI Tokyo Ariake Store and Tokyo Tourist Information Center.
Background of the
project This project was a joint effort by six elementary schools in the Ochiai area, and began as part of social studies and integrated learning classes. The 13-meter-long fabrics are glued, patterned, and dyed with indigo, then washed and fireproofed.
The
process of production
Under the guidance of the craftsmen, the children experienced the entire process from "picking the leaves and producing the dye" to "dyeing and washing" using freshly grown indigo.
Exhibition
period and location
The exhibition will be held on the 3rd floor elevator of MUJI Tokyo Ariake store, and will be followed by an exhibition at Tokyo Tourist Information Center @ Basta Shinjuku.
