and Fukuyama Express Launch Collaboration Using "Double-Connected Trucks
Nitori Holdings, Home Logistics, and Fukuyama Express have launched a collaboration aimed at reducing labor shortages and environmental impact in the logistics industry.
Background
The logistics industry is facing a serious challenge known as the "Logistics 2024 Problem. As regulations on driver working hours are tightened and labor shortages become even more serious, the Nitori Group and Fukuyama Express have decided to introduce a new transportation system.
Collaborative Efforts
We have introduced Fukuyama Express double articulated trucks for transportation between distribution centers operated by Home Logistics. This will enable a single driver to transport the equivalent of two large trucks, thus eliminating labor shortages among drivers for product delivery.
Effects
The double articulated trucks reduce CO emissions and fuel consumption by about 40% compared to regular heavy-duty trucks. This will also reduce transportation costs and contribute to the reduction of environmental burdens such as global warming and air pollution.
Future Initiatives
The Nitori Group and Fukuyama Express will expand the area where double articulated trucks are used in the future, and will also work on modal shifts using other means of transportation such as railroads. This will contribute to the development of a sustainable society.
