We have tried many times to have that "melt-in-yolk" taste at home. However, perhaps because of my self-made method, I struggled to find the right amount of time to boil the fish and kept making mistakes. I could have looked up recommended cooking methods on Cookpad, but I didn't want to put that much effort into a mere egg (pardon the pun), and I was still struggling in my own way.
Then I found a "half-boiled egg ball" sold at Daiso, a 100 yen store. The description reads, "Can be made in the microwave! Professional cooking! " is printed on the label. Even I, a person who likes to take care of things, can do this.... Although I am not sure how much I should expect from a 100-yen store product, I could not hold back my rising expectations, so I gave it a try at the editorial office.
What is a "half-boiled egg ball"?
The "Hanjuku Tamago Bowl" is made of polypropylene, which has relatively high heat resistance. The handles on either side of the bowl, which is about 15 cm in diameter, lock the drainer open and closed with a click. Five feet under the bowl support the drainer firmly.

To make semi-boiled eggs with the "Half-boiled Egg Ball," all you need is an egg, a little water, and a microwave oven. In addition, a regular "fork" is a hidden technique.

How to cook half-boiled eggs with the "Half-boiled egg ball"?
First, put the eggs into the half-boiled egg ball. Next, make 4 to 6 holes in the yolk to prevent the egg from overcooking and bursting. This is where the fork mentioned earlier comes into play! You have to pierce the yolk several times with a bamboo skewer, but with a fork, you can pierce the yolk all at once. Once the yolks are pierced, pour enough water to cover the eggs to prevent them from rupturing. Microwave the eggs for about 50 seconds, and when the water is just right, take them out and drain them quickly with the drainer lid. When you gently open the lid, you will see that the eggs have been cooked inside the container.

What if I don't have a 500W microwave?
The instruction manual says to warm the egg at 500W for 50 seconds, but the microwave in our editorial office did not have a 500W setting, so we decided to warm the egg at 700W. When I tried to see how long it takes to reach a thick, half-boiled egg, the yolk lightly exploded after 40 seconds. 28 to 30 seconds seems to be an appropriate time when warming the egg in a 700W microwave. If your microwave is not 500W, please refer to this page.

Half-boiled egg ball" was born for eggs.
You may be thinking that you can make half-boiled eggs with a normal plate and colander without using the "half-boiled egg ball". As a side note, the "half-boiled egg ball" will fall over under the weight of the drainer lid if there is no egg in the bowl. You can't even stand without an egg; it's a clumsy cooking utensil that was born just for eggs.

The price, of course, is 108 yen (tax included).
