When I was in elementary school, my pencil case, which was filled with pencils for studying, art, and playing (battle pencils), was always bread and bread. I think there are still many, but the elementary school I attended was prohibited from using mechanical pencils, so I longed for a mechanical pencil that didn't need to be sharpened and looked cool.

But when you grow up and try using various writing instruments, don't you think that pencils were surprisingly easy to write? This time, we would like to introduce "Pencil Sharp," a hybrid writing instrument that uses such a pencil and mechanical pencil.

This product sold by KOKUYO is a mechanical pencil that pursues "smooth writing comfort like a pencil". In addition to the core diameters of 0.9 mm and 1.3 mm, 0.7 mm was released in July. There are two types of shafts, hexagon and triangle, and this time I bought a hexagon. The price is 180 yen (excluding tax) per bottle.

◆ 0.7mm that is easy to grip and stable and easy to write

Japanese mechanical pencils generally have a 0.5 mm core, but even 0.7 mm does not make a big difference in line thickness. However, the difference of 0.2 mm will increase the strength of the core and make the writing feel smoother and more stable. The drawn lines are also dark and easy to see. It seems to be very useful for the author who often takes notes during work and interviews.

In addition, the hexagonal shaft that you are accustomed to using a pencil is extremely easy to grip. With a general cylindrical grip, your fingers may slip or hurt, but Pencil Sharp is light with an exquisite thickness, and it seems that you will not get tired even if you write for a long time. It is also a point that it is hard to roll on a desk or notebook.

The replacement core has a structure that inserts directly from the knock part. Eliminating parts such as caps and clips as much as possible reduces the possibility of loss or damage. Personally, I really like the cleanliness of pursuing only the original function of mechanical pencils, which is to "draw out the core and write." You can rest assured that the pen tip can be stowed when not in use.

◆ So, after all, I want all three

Since it's a big deal, I put in 0.9mm and 1.3mm and compared the usability.

Obviously thick when it comes to 1.3mm (yellow)

0.9mm is softer than 0.7mm on paper, so you can write with lighter force. The drawn lines are also quite dark, so it seems to be good when you want to concentrate on writing notes, ideas, mind maps, etc. By the way, when I asked the editorial staff of the illustrator to use it, it was this 0.9 mm that was easy to draw.

The 1.3mm core is about the thickness of a pencil that has not been sharpened for a while, and is suitable for filling mark sheets and rough illustrations and drawings. That means that if you have three, you can almost cover the writing scene !? After all, even as an adult, the pencil case keeps expanding.
