This time I will jump out to Aichi
This time I will jump out to Aichi

The author was born in 1984. It was the year when the movie "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" was released. I actually saw it after I was aware of it, but it seems that I put a stuffed animal (Tet) on my shoulder and got on a kotatsu (Move) that was turned upside down and became Nausicaa.

From Nausicaa to Studio Ghibli's latest work "When Marnie Was There" released in 2014, an event is being held in Aichi prefecture that looks back on more than 30 years. It is said that it will be held in Aichi ahead of the rest of the country, so even the author who happened to go to Nagoya should not miss this! I visited.

◆ The venue is less than an hour from Nagoya

"Ghibli Exposition-From Nausicaa to Marnie-" is a special project of the "National Urban Green Space Aichi Fair" held by Aichi Prefecture at the Aichi Expo Memorial Park (Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture). To reach the venue, the memorial park, take the subway for about 30 minutes from Nagoya Station, then change to "Linimo" at Fujigaoka Station for about 10 minutes. The park also has a large parking lot, so you can come by car.

When you arrive at Ai-Chikyu Expo Memorial Park Station, you will be greeted by the nostalgic characters "Morizo" and "Kiccolo". The road leading to the park is also decorated with flowers.

◆ The god of movie art that you can feel in the original picture and space! "When Marnie Was There x Yohei Taneda Exhibition"

First, go to Marnie's world!
First, go to Marnie's world!

This time, "When Marnie Was There x Yohei Taneda Exhibition" is being held at the same time, and tickets for the day are sold at the Global Citizens Exchange Center Gymnasium, which is the venue. You can see two exhibitions for 1,000 yen for adults (student / child fee available), so it's a great deal? Tickets should be purchased in advance at Lawson or Ticket Pia for smooth operation. I bought a ticket with a Linimo ticket, but I got a Linimo ticket with Marnie drawn on it.

Same-day tickets are also available, but advance purchase is recommended

At the "When Marnie Was There x Yohei Taneda Exhibition", there are plenty of image boards and background drawings by the art staff who are proud of Studio Ghibli, such as art director Yohei Taneda and Kazuo Oga. Even a sketch of a pencil seems to start moving at any moment. Mr. Taneda's work desk and work tools were also reproduced, and I was always excited.

Furthermore, in the venue, the "wet land mansion" where Marnie lived and that silo that appears at the climax are precisely reproduced like a live-action movie set. Experience the sensation of being in the movie world in a collaborative space of animation and live-action that only Mr. Taneda can do!

When you leave the exhibition hall, you will find a goods shop. Only the shop can be re-entered, so you may want to look at another venue first and then come back. There is also a shooting spot.

◆ "Oiwa Family Garden" too!

A little away from the venue, the garden of the Oiwa family, where the main character Anna spent a summer, was also reproduced. There are also "Chikamichi" and Marnie who have visited many times.

◆ Can you find business tips at the "Ghibli Exposition"?

The next venue is the Ai Earth Expo Memorial Gallery 3, which is about a 7-minute walk from the gymnasium. Here, the "Ghibli Exposition", which traces the trajectory of Ghibli for 30 years, is being held.

The contents of the exhibition are mainly the materials and goods of Studio Ghibli works so far. It is extremely emotional to those who have grown older with Ghibli.

In addition, many work desks and memos of producer Toshio Suzuki are exhibited, and you can see how the promotion from planning to production and release of the work progresses.

What impressed me especially was the fax exchange between Mr. Suzuki and Mr. Shigesato Itoi until the copy "Living" of "Princess Mononoke" was decided. I was thrilled to go back and forth many times, suffering and arriving at the work and the most suitable copy of the era. No matter how great a work you make, if you don't convey it to the world with timely promotions, the movie won't be seen by many people. You may find business tips in different industries.

By the way, a full-scale (?) Catbus and Totoro stuffed animals are also on display at the venue, and children under elementary school age can enter the catbus (photographing is not possible). I envy you!

◆ By all means at "Satsuki and Mei's House"

In the park, there is also that "haunted house-like" house that appears in "My Neighbor Totoro".

I need a ticket separately from the exhibition to get inside, but I suddenly decided on a schedule, so the ticket for this day is already sold out. Unfortunately I only looked at the exterior ... According to the staff, tickets may be sold out up to a few weeks in advance, so advance reservations are essential.

◆ Weekdays are recommended!

In addition, the exhibition will be very crowded on weekends. It seems that numbered tickets will be distributed, but I heard that I had to wait for 3 hours (!) Before entering the venue. The park itself is large and comfortable with nature, so if possible, I would like to go there on weekdays and enjoy the whole thing.

On weekdays, you can turn around very smoothly.

Light meals are also sold at shops, and food events are held depending on the period. If it's sunny, you can bring your lunch and eat it under the blue sky.
