It's been very cold in Tokyo these days, but how are you spending your holidays? I try to borrow as much manga as I can at TSUTAYA on Friday night so that I don't have to leave the house as much as possible.
I was a hikikomori member of society on weekends, but since I moved to the Chuo Line last year, I have been to many places.
This is "Tachikawa Manga Park" !

Tachikawa Manga Park is a manga-centered library (not available for rent) with the purpose of "enjoying the cultural value of manga to many people." It is about a 10-minute walk from the south exit of JR Tachikawa Station.
The usage fee is 400 yen for adults and 200 yen for children. The admission fee is a coin locker fee for storing shoes, and once you enter, you can use the facility throughout business hours.

◆ This is amazing in "Tachikawa Manga Park"
Passing through the gate, it's a paradise for manga lovers! First of all, I would like to introduce the charm of the facility.
Part 1: Overwhelming number of books
In the hall, you can read all-you-can-read manga displayed up to the ceiling. The current collection of books is about 40,000 (!), And we have a wide lineup of the latest popular works, classic masterpieces, and maniac works that are rarely seen in bookstores. In addition, there are plenty of magazines and picture books that the whole family can enjoy.

Manga is categorized by its own genre, and there is also a recommendation corner. If you have a book you want to read, you can find it smoothly using the search system.

Part 2: The reading space is interesting
Furthermore, the reading space inside the building is a must-see for manga lovers. In the space based on tatami mats and wood, there are also spaces such as lofts and closets. After all, it's best to lie down and read manga!

Part 3: Change your mood with a light meal or on the terrace
If you get tired of reading, you can change your mood by drinking a drink or eating light meals such as curry, takoyaki, and sweets. There is also a terrace for visitors, and it feels good to expose your body to the wind.

◆ Infiltrate the popular event "Manga Painting Class"
In addition, various manga-themed events are held at Tachikawa Manga Park. This time, I took a look at the "Manga Painting Class" held in odd-numbered months.
The "Manga Painting Class" is a workshop for elementary and junior high school students who learn how to draw manga from a professional manga artist, Ichiro Tojo. It was a popular event that filled up quickly every time, so it was crowded with elementary school students on this day as well.

Participants will first copy their favorite manga and the teacher will teach them how to draw.

When the practice is over, it's real. Draft a manga manuscript paper with a pencil and finish it with a pen.

It's a two-hour event, but the children's concentration doesn't diminish even for a moment, but rather they don't have enough time. It is exciting to think that a future great writer may be born from this. By the way, when I was a kid, I used to draw and play manga with my sister.

Event information will be posted on the official website at any time, so if you are interested, please check it out!
◆ I'm not alone anymore
I used to think that manga should be read by myself. The sight of adults and children reading manga in an open place makes me feel strange at first, but as I get used to it, it makes me feel more comfortable with friends. Above all, you don't have to worry about time like "manga cafe", so it is recommended for people who want to fully immerse themselves in the world of the work.
It is crowded on holidays, so if you want to read slowly, weekdays are better. There is also a weekday limited passport.

Even those who have been away from manga lately will surely be absorbed in going to a children's event. If you live near you and like manga, please come visit us!
