I'm sorry I just talked about spam love the other day, but canned "spam" is quite expensive, isn't it? At a general supermarket, one can costs about 400 to 500 yen, so you need to be prepared to use it all up before opening it.
Luncheon meat, which is processed meat like spam, is actually available at business supermarkets at a great deal. This time, I tried 3 kinds of canned foods that I found at the store.
■ Gluten-free Spanish ham
"Spanish ham" made from lean pork, with less fat and gluten-free (278 yen, all tax excluded). The taste is similar to spam, but it certainly has a light taste. It is easy to loosen and resembles the texture of corned beef and tuna.
■ Chicken luncheon meat
Cheap "Chicken Luncheon Meat" using chicken (175 yen). The stimulus of salt and pepper is strong, but the texture is smooth and the fat content is low, so it is relatively light.
All of them are crispy on the surface and used as snacks and sandwiches. It goes well with mayonnaise and eggs, making it a more satisfying sandwich than ham.
■ Luncheon fish
The last is "fish" instead of "meat". Open the Danish "Luncheon Fish" (248 yen), which uses cod roe as a terrine.
There is almost no saltiness, and the crushed texture that remains on the tongue and the fishy odor peculiar to roe make it a habit similar to ankimo. I thought it was more salty, so I missed the beat, but it was refreshing and rather crunchy. It seems to go well with a unique craft beer.
I hesitate to buy imported canned foods that I'm not familiar with, but don't worry, they all tasted almost as you expected. If you miss the taste of spam, why not try it? * All listed prices do not include tax
