Daiso Chestnut Peeler

Chestnuts are one of the tastes of autumn. Chestnuts are often enjoyed as a part of sweets and dishes, but once a season, we would like to taste the boiled or steamed chestnuts themselves.

One of the obstacles is the difficulty in peeling them, but we found an item at Daiso, a 100-yen store, that solves this problem. The name of the item is "Chestnut Peeler. It is a recommended product for autumn.

Chestnut Peeler is a small knife with a corrugated blade. I actually used it to peel boiled chestnuts.

First, make a cut from top to bottom along the striations of the devil skin.

Next, insert the blade into the cut and lay it down to peel. It is easier to peel if you hook the blade between the waves of the blade onto the peel.

I was able to easily peel the skin of one chestnut, which would be very difficult if I tried to peel it with my bare hands. I was impressed!

The astringent skin fell apart when I tried to peel it, so I think it might be better to peel it by hand. It depends on the quality of the chestnuts and how well they are boiled, so please give it a try.

It can be used not only for chestnuts, but also for peeling thick peels of oranges and other citrus fruits. If you think "I don't eat chestnuts that often...", please consider using this method as well!
