Tanita Salt Meter Shiomi Spoon

The Japanese diet, which often uses seasonings such as soy sauce and miso, generally tends to "eat too much salt." I'm still young, so I'd like to stay alert just because I'm healthy for the time being, and always try to keep the taste light.

That said, you can't objectively measure the degree of "saltyness" with your own tongue. Therefore, I tried the home appliance "Tanita Salt Meter Shiomi Spoon" (SO-312), which seems to be useful.

Home appliances developed by Tanita, a major manufacturer of measuring instruments such as scales and cooking scales. A sensor is attached to the tip that is rounded like a spoon, and by putting this part in miso soup, soup, broth, etc., the salt concentration is measured. There are three measurement ranges: "light taste (0.6 to 0.8%)", "normal taste (0.9 to 1.1%)", and "kara taste (1.2% to)". It seems that humans feel "delicious" when they have a saline solution close to 0.9% in their mouth, but Tanita suggests getting used to the lighter taste of 0.8% or less.

Salt measurement using a Shiomi spoon is completed by immersing the tip in the soup while pressing the button and stirring for 5 seconds. One of "light taste", "normal taste", and "kara taste" is lit on the handle. After the measurement is finished, wash the tip part cleanly and wipe it with a soft cloth. Since the measurement is completed in a blink of an eye, you can easily practice it even when preparing a busy meal.

Although it is very easy to use, there are some requirements, so you need to read the instructions carefully. First, the soup to be measured should be in a free-flowing state. It does not support the measurement of thick and viscous soups, soups with very high oil content, and solids. In addition, the temperature of soup is assumed to be 60 to 80 degrees Celsius, and it is said that it cannot be accurately determined at other temperatures.

In addition to the above conditions, please note that if the salinity is less than 0.6%, the LED will not be displayed even if you measure it. When I measured the handmade miso soup, nothing was displayed, so I felt like "Is it less than 0.6%? Is it so light?" I don't think that any soup is accurate, and I think it's best to use it with the feeling that there may be some errors.

There was no indication that the miso soup in my home was less than 0.6%.
