Dutch designer Thijs Smeets created "Lili Lite". It has bookshelves, reading lights, and bookmarks.


Smeets' girlfriend Liedewij enjoys reading books in bed. However, because of that, the night table beside the bed was filled with books, and I couldn't put anything else on it. Also, the bedside light switch placed on the night table became the underlay of the book, and it was troublesome to turn the light switch on and off.

"Lili Lite" is a bookshelf & reading light made by Smeets to solve this problem. The "valley" part is a bookshelf, and if you select a book to read on the bed and place it here, the night table will be released from the book.


The part that became a "mountain" is a bookmark. If you keep the page you're reading open and put it here, the next time you pick up the book, it's convenient to continue reading immediately.


The biggest feature of "Lili Lite" is hidden in this mountainous part. When you pick up the book you put here, the light turns on automatically. You don't have to look for the light to read a book and switch it on. Also, if you put a book on it, the light will turn off automatically, so you can go to bed immediately.



"Lili Lite" also helps keep your bedroom clean and tidy. The trick to keeping your room clean is to put your books together as much as possible. If you set up "Lili Lite" in your bedroom and put the books you read in bed only here, the books will not be scattered on the floor or table.


Smeets is currently running a campaign to recruit investors on the crowdfunding site kickstarter for the commercialization of "Lili Lite". At the time of writing, Lili Lite is available with a $ 139 investment. The amount required to obtain it will increase as the campaign progresses, and the retail price after the end will be $ 170. The shipping time is scheduled around November 2015 in time for Christmas gifts.
