The website of Purl Soho, a New York-based handicraft store, shows how to make felt coasters that are perfect for the fall arts and crafts season. The combinations of colorful felt and simple geometric patterns are endless. But it looks absolutely fashionable (?) to make. The key point is that it can be made in style.

The only materials needed are felt and yarn. First, you will need a square-sized piece of felt for the base of the coaster, a quarter-size square, and a right-angled isosceles triangle decoration piece cut in half. This site makes them in 4-inch (approx. 10 cm) squares.

Here comes the most fun part. Arrange the parts freely on the base, fasten them with a gusset needle, and sew them on with a fine running stitch. The four sides of the coaster should be sewn on last.

Finish by balling up the end of the stitches on the back side of the coaster and pulling the needle out 2 cm inward. You can also combine felt in fall colors to make a chic coaster!
