Chiharu Sakazaki's penguins have become kokeshi dolls! --Handmade with a warm texture

From the creation of Kokeshi dolls by Usaburo Kokeshi, the "Penguins Kokeshi" series with the motif of penguins drawn by illustrator Chiharu Sakazaki has appeared. It will be on sale from August 5th at the Hikidashi store, a mail-order site of Hikidashi Co., Ltd.

"Penguin Kokeshi" is a palm-sized Kokeshi doll created by "Usaburo Kokeshi" who has a workshop in Shinto Village, Kitagunma District, Gunma Prefecture. Under the theme of "encounter between penguins and traditional Japanese bird patterns," designs wearing traditional bird patterns, which are said to be auspicious, will be developed.

It is said that the craftsmen of Usaburo Kokeshi are carefully painting while making the best use of the warm grain of natural wood. Each one has its own personality and is characterized by a warm texture unique to handmade products.

There are three types of lineup: "Sakazaki Chiharu Penguin Kokeshi [Karigane (Gankin)]", "Sakazaki Chiharu Penguin Kokeshi [Fukurasuzume (Sparrow)]", and "Sakazaki Chiharu Penguin Kokeshi [Chidori (Chidori)]". The price (tax included) is 4,620 yen each.
