
Typhoon Haiyan (international name: Haiyan, Philippine name: Yolanda), which made landfall in the central Philippines on November 8, 2013, caused extensive damage in the Philippines. This typhoon caused many deaths and victims, and destroyed about 34 million coconut trees, equivalent to 10% of the total number of coconut trees in the Philippines. As a result, many farmers lost their livelihood.

Cocowell began its relief activities on November 10, just after the typhoon hit next week, and later launched the Cocowood Project in March 2014. Cocowell provided chainsaws and processing machinery, and also collaborated with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines to provide technical training. Thus, the tableware/miscellaneous goods brand COCO no Ki was born.
