Toward the end of the year, the weather is getting colder and colder, making it hard to do without winter accessories such as scarves and gloves. However, we tend to use them as they are even though they are surprisingly dirty from sweating indoors where the heating is on high, or from dust and dirt blown up by the north wind.

However, sending them to the dry cleaners can be expensive, and above all, they are cold and uncomfortable when they are out of your hands! So, I tried to find a home cleaning method that can remove stains while maintaining the texture of winter accessories.

I tried using liquid soap from ESCAY.

When it comes to home cleaning, I used to use so-called "fashionable detergent," but it is difficult to use it on fur and suede. So we tried "Moisture series Liquid Soap" by Eskay Soap. This mildly alkaline liquid soap is suitable for cleaning sebum and dirt, and since it contains no alkaline agents, it can even be used to wash fur! As someone who has recently been interested in the topic of "natural cleaning," the fact that this product is a natural cleaner that does not use chemicals is also a key point.

I will now try washing a 100% wool scarf, gloves, and a rabbit fur jacket all at once at home, referring to the home cleaning method taught by President Kurahashi, the "Soap King" of the company.

◆Wool scarf and gloves

Wool shrinks when soaked in hot water, so use water or lukewarm water below 30 degrees Celsius. Pour water into a basin or other container, add liquid soap and let it foam up, then put the folded scarf in and push to wash. Rinse the folded scarf while it is still folded, and then dehydrate it in the washing machine for 2 minutes.

Easy to tell because the water becomes clear after rinsing.

By the way, it is easier to dehydrate the scarf if it is placed against the wall of the washing tub.

Dry it flat in the shade, turning it inside out along the way. The image was taken on a balcony, but direct sunlight is strictly forbidden, as it can cause the color to fade or yellow. After drying, lightly iron the surface and let the hair lie.

After washing, the hair will feel smooth and silky. The hair feels not only undamaged but also in better condition than before the wash. The detergent itself is almost unscented, so you only smell the wool. Washing hands in winter can be rough, but the additive-free soap is gentle on the skin, so I feel safe.

Then, gloves. I was a little worried because these gloves have suede inside, but the leather part was washed moist and soft!

◆Real fur can also be washed!
Last but not least
,
real fur, which is not generally considered to be washable at home. This one was attached to the collar of a jacket, but I am ashamed to say that I had never washed it before....

First, pour warm water of about 30 degrees Celsius into a container and add liquid soap to make foam. Then, gently submerge the fur in the water with your hands and gently press it into the water to wash it. Rinse the fur in the same way.

Dehydrate the fur in the washing machine for 1 to 2 minutes, then spread it out on a flat-drying net and hang it in the shade. When dry, fluff it up by running a clothes brush along the fur or by hand to loosen it up.

I washed a variety of clothes, and they all turned out soft to the touch and the fur settled down, making me look forward to washing them every time. The price of the detergent itself is a bit expensive, about 700 yen for 1L, so I would personally use it for washing fashionable clothes.

According to Soap King, you can also wash down jackets at home (see their website for the method). However, the texture of some products may change slightly, so it is better to send especially important or high-end clothes to a professional company. Why don't you remove this year's stains before the end of this year and welcome the New Year with a new spirit?
