Michael Chou, a US resident, has developed the Midnight Scoop, a scoop that can easily scoop up ice cream with ease. He is currently seeking investors on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter. They have already raised $127,855, far exceeding their goal of $17,500, and have decided to commercialize the product.

Various technologies have been utilized in scoops and spoons for scooping tickle ice cream. The technology used in the Midnight Scoop is "a shape that allows the user to naturally grip the scoop in the direction that is most comfortable for the human body to exert effort.

Normally, when scooping ice cream, you would pull the scoop toward you. But according to Chou, this method doesn't utilize the muscles in the arm as well as it should. In some cases, this method can even cause wrist and arm injuries.

The "Midnight Scoop" features scooping while pressing down on the scoop. This method makes the most efficient use of the arm muscles and allows you to scoop the tickling ice cream without strain.

Conventional spoons for scooping "ice cream with a tickle" use technology such as heating the spoon with defrosting liquid or efficiently conducting the heat from the hand to the spoon. Compared to these, Midnight Scoop's technology is, in a sense, left to the power of the human hand. It makes full use of human arm strength to scoop the ice cream.

Naturally, the force applied to the "Midnight Scoop" is considerable. The Midnight Scoop has been designed to be strong enough to withstand being dropped from a 50-story building or run over by a car.

Midnight Scoop is available on kickstarter with a $35 investment. Shipping is scheduled for December 2014. Shipping to Japan will cost an additional $15.
