Handmade Korean classic snacks! The process of wrapping and baking "glutinous rice hotteok mix" is also fun

"Hotteok" is a classic snack from Korean food stalls. It is made by wrapping sweet bean paste in a dough that combines glutinous rice and wheat flour, and is similar to hot cakes and anpan.

I found a confectionery kit "glutinous rice hotteok mix" in KALDI that makes it easy to make this, so I tried it! The price is 360 yen (tax included). It is also sold at some supermarkets and web shops such as Amazon (price may vary).

The set includes 3 items: mixed powder for dough, yeast, and "hotteok sugar" for bean paste. This is all you need for the material. You can make 5 hotteoks per box.

Easy to make. The procedure is as follows.

Put yeast and 120 ml of lukewarm water in a bowl and dissolve the yeast.

Add the mixed powder and mix with a spatula. When the dough is put together, divide it into 5 equal parts and roll them.

Stretch each into a flat circle (about 10 cm in diameter) and wrap it with hotteok sugar. 2 teaspoons per piece is a guide.

Add oil to a warm frying pan and bake on low heat with the eyes closed. When it has a slightly brownish brown color, turn it over and spread it flat with a spatula to bake.

After 1 to 2 minutes, turn it over again and bake for another 1 to 2 minutes to complete.

It's palm-sized and looks like a "oyaki". The surface is fragrant and the inside is chewy when you eat it! Hotteok sugar melted by heat overflows and spreads the sweetness of black honey. The crispy texture of crushed peanuts in hotteok sugar is a nice accent.

It has a chewy texture, so the bite lasts a long time and is satisfying. It's more like Japanese sweets than Western sweets, but it's slightly exotic with the scent of cinnamon. It has a nostalgic but new taste.

The bean paste melts and is delicious! When it gets cold, warm it in the microwave before eating ◎

A hotteok mix that you can enjoy the process of wrapping, pressing and baking, which is not often seen in ordinary sweets making. How about a snack on your day off!
